Sausage Pinwheel Crescent Rolls

Sausage pinwheel crescent rolls are the perfect treat for any occasion.

Whether you’re hosting a party or just enjoying the game on television with friends, appetizers are a must-have.

When it comes to appetizers, there are several favorites in my household.  But these sausage pinwheels are always a hit!  And there are never any leftovers.

They’re a go-to appetizer on movie nights with my husband.  I make sausage pinwheels and serve them alongside carrots or celery, and some fruit.  The. Best. Snack.

Sausage pinwheel crescent roll appetizers are a delicious and easy-to-make dish perfect for any party or gathering with friends.

But don’t take my word for it, go ahead and try them for yourself.

How To Make Sausage Pinwheel Crescent Rolls

The recipe is super simple, and you’ll only need a few ingredients.

Ingredients:

1 lb Pork Sausage

½ Cup Diced Red Pepper

½ Cup Chopped Onion

1 8 oz Package of Cream Cheese

2 8 oz Tubes of Crescent Rolls

½ Tsp Onion Powder

Black Pepper

1 Cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese

Topping:

1 Green Onion thinly sliced

Diced Tomatoes

Directions:

1. Crumble sausage into a frying pan.

2. Season sausage with onion powder, and black pepper. Cook sausage until it is no longer pink. About 7 – 10 minutes.

3. Drain any excess grease from the sausage.

4. Add the diced red pepper to the skillet with sausage, and cook until the peppers are tender, about another 2 – 3 minutes.

5. Add sausage and peppers to a mixing bowl.

6. Next, add in the cream cheese, stirring until the mixture is thoroughly combined.

7. Open one package of the crescent rolls. Gently press out the crescent roll dough on a flat surface into a ½ “ thick rectangle.  Seal the perforated edges of each rectangle with your fingers.

8. Scoop ½  of the sausage filling onto your dough.  Gently spread the filling leaving a small border around the edges.  Sprinkle filling with half of the cheddar cheese.

9. Next, carefully, start to roll up the dough as if you are rolling cinnamon rolls, pressing the roll together as you go.

10. Place dough on a separate baking tray, making sure the seam side is down. Repeat this process with the second package of crescent roll dough.

11 .Wrap  sausage roll logs in plastic and place in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to set.

(If you want to make these the night before,  simply wrap dough in Saran wrap and freeze overnight. Remove, slice and bake the next morning).

12. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

13. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly grease, or use a silicone mat.

14. Remove dough from the refrigerator. Carefully cut each log into 1 inch slices, and place them on a baking sheet.

15. Place pinwheels in the oven and bake until they are golden brown for about 15 – 17 minutes.

Remove from the oven and serve while warm.

Enjoy!

These pinwheels are perfect for a quick breakfast, brunch, or game day appetizer. And best of all, they can be customized to your liking.

Sausage pinwheel crescent rolls are sure to be a hit with family or friends, and are perfect for any occasion.

Recipe Tips

Storage

Leftover sausage pinwheels can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge. To reheat, simply microwave, or place them in a warm oven or air fryer for a few minutes until heated through.

Customize your sausage

While the recipe calls for breakfast sausage, there are a variety of types you can use to switch up the flavor. Try using spicy sausage for a little kick, or maple-flavored sausage, which is my favorite, for a touch of sweetness.

Switch up your cheese

The recipe calls for cheddar cheese, but you can use any type of cheese you like. Swiss cheese will give these pinwheels a milder flavor, or you can add some pepper jack for a little bit of heat.

Add in some vegetables

Chopped vegetables like bell peppers, onions, or mushrooms would make a great addition to these pinwheels. Simply sauté veggies until they’re tender, then add them to your mixture.
